Hiji Nam is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center, and a clinical candidate in the Child, Adolescent, and Adult programs at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR).

Her research centers on psycholinguistics, language socialization, and the history of psychoanalysis and science. Research interests include: “post-monolingualism,” translation, intersubjectivity, and the mother tongue; ethnographies of communication and the social reproductive labor of mothers and children; speech communities, temporality, and proprietary nationhoods and families.

In addition to her clinical and academic work, she previously held roles as Assistant Editor at Artforum and Associate Editor at Primary Information. As a writer, she has contributed to publications including Artforum, Bookforum, Art in America, Frieze, Aperture, and various artist catalogues for institutions including Michael Werner Gallery, Museum Marta Herford, and Karma. She lives in New York.
